Heading DownEast to Camden, Maine

A local, with a little Maine Humor, would give you directions like this:
"They call it "DownEast" because when sailing back to Maine
from southern New England ports like Boston or New York, you
sailed down wind and east/northeast.  It turns out, now that we
have cars and planes, you still head the same way!

It's easy to get to Camden, Maine and you can have a lot fun
getting here too!  Here's a map to help.

You can fly to New York, Boston, MA, Manchester, NH,
Portland or even Rockland, Maine and drive the rest of it, stopping at all
kinds of interesting sites along the way.

Or, you can just get on Rt. 95 which will take you from the
New Hampshire/Maine border to Portland, Maine. Then take Rt. 295
through downtown Portland, and stay right on Rt. 295 to exit 28.

You can stop and shop in Freeport at L.L. Bean for all that outdoor gear you'll need for vacationing
in Maine like everything for fishing, biking, hiking, canoeing, kayaking plus a whole lot of other stores
just in case you have something else in mind too. (That's exit 20 for Freeport.)

Well, when you get back on Rt. 295 from shopping in Freeport, going North still remember, take exit 28
at Brunswick and drive right up Rt. 1 through Brunswick, Wisscassett and Waldoboro.

Now, you've got your choice - stay right on Rt. 1 through Warren, Thomaston, Rockland and Rockport
right into Camden The Inns are on the right going down the hill into town.

Or, in Warren, take a left on Rt. 90  and follow it right up to Rockport to save a few minutes. Turn left
back onto Rt. 1 going North and when you come into Camden, the Inns are on the right, going down the
hill into town. That's Elm street, you know. The Inns are at #82..

Just in case, there's one of those new fangled Google maps just below and they'll give you directions
from your door to ours for free! Can you believe it?

There's also a story below on ways to have fun getting to the Inns at Blackberry Common in Camden,
Maine and some ideas on what to do once you get here. Some good! Ayuh!"

You could be more than just "from away" so here are some maps
to help orient you to New England and Maine. If you have any questions,
your Innkeepers Jim & Cyndi would be happy to help you plan your trip.

Just Imagine your Trip to the Inns!

Imagine you've just arrived at the Inns at Blackberry Common in Camden, Maine on a warm summer afternoon.  You've spent the day meandering and antiquing up Rt. 1, shopping in Freeport and having a lobster roll in Wiscasset.

The innkeepers, Jim and Cyndi warmly welcome you, check you in and show you around the Blackberry and Elms inns. You're ready for a romantic dinner at the inn or a nearby restaurant. The staff offers recommendations, reservations and directions. You won't be disappointed.

Your room is comfortable and well appointed - maybe one with a Jacuzzi, a gas fireplace and a bottle of champagne waiting. Did you remember to order flowers and chocolates from the concierge service? We know everyone and can arrange almost anything!

After dinner, it's a lovely evening to sit in the gardens after strolling back from Camden harbor. The beautifully designed gardens at the Blackberry Inn and Elms Inn  tie the inns together and are a perfect spot for relaxing.

The next morning, you're treated to a delicious, multicourse breakfast with outstanding coffee and a juice selection in the Victorian dining room or outside on the patio.  The service is excellent and the presentation inviting.

Today, the staff booked a morning sail on one of the many schooners in the harbor. You see seals, lobstermen, sloops and lighthouses.  After an Inn prepared picnic by the shore, you window shop through the interesting stores downtown and watch the yachts sail and return.

After relaxing back at the inn, you experience a fabulous meal at one of our many fine dining establishments. They're priced right, easy to find and close by.

Tomorrow,  after breakfast, with the help of a trail map and innkeeper experience, you hike through the Camden hills in the morning and later head to Rockland and explore the Farnsworth Art Museum featuring the Wyeth Wing. Visit the Maine Lighthouse Museum too!  Both museums are world class in their exhibits.  Dinner in Rockland is a treat with many fine restaurants to choose from.

The next day, before a delicious lobster dinner on the water, you head out on a day trip to Acadia, Monhegan Island, experience a local festival or tour  the many lighthouses or wineries in the area.

The last day at the inn, you bike along beautiful country roads with farms, lakes and forests.  The innkeepers can arrange kayak & bicycle rentals locally. There are many places to stop, picnic and swim.  It's quiet and peaceful.

After packing, you check out with fresh memories of an exciting stay and head off with directions and an itinerary to another Select Registry Inn in New England.

Thank you for visiting us at the Blackberry and Elms Inns. Your escape for relaxation, romance, elegance and charm is complete.  We know you'll visit us again often!
