FIRST CLASS PERFORMANCES

It’s been said that all the world’s a stage…certainly here in Maine , all
the Midcoast is a stage!
Both Camden and Rockport boast fine Opera Houses that host live performances
year round. The Bay Chamber Concert series, at the Rockport Opera House,
hosts a year round retinue of performances, with styles from big band, to
classical and Baroque. Camden ’s Opera House brings opera and so much more
to the stage! Enjoy fine theatre, ballet (the seasonal performance of The
Nutcracker is a Camden tradition!), comedy and concerts. Meet the performers
at post concert receptions and at lecture series. Great community theatre is
not to be missed from the Belfast Maskers Theater productions in nearby
Belfast .
On a summer’s day, enjoy the strains of music wafting over the water from
free performances in Camden ’s Bok Amphitheatre on the water overlooking the
harbor.
THE WRITTEN WORD
For the literary lovers, each November brings the annual Maine Author’s
Series & Literary Festival to the Camden Opera House. This full weekend of
literary events brings authors who write in and about Maine to the stage for
presentations, readings, workshops and more. Midcoast Maine is home to
Pulitzer prize winning authors, renowned historians, screen writers and
“best selling” authors who share their work and their talents during this
annual event. Enjoy a welcome reception with the authors, panelists and
presenters on Friday evening as the Festival begins. The Inns At Blackberry
Common is proud to offer special packages for this festival to our guests.

FINE ART MUSEUMS & CONTEMPORARY GALLERIES

Make time to visit our world class galleries and fine art museums! The coast
of Maine has long played an inspirational roll in the world of art and our
galleries and museums showcase the best. First and foremost is the
Farnsworth Art Museum and Wyeth Center . A must see for all who love
American art. The Farnsworth has held a distinctive role in American art for
decades. With a collection of over 9,000 objects, it spans four centuries
and is home to the works of three generations of Wyeths. A permanent
exhibit, Maine in America: Two Hundred Years of American Art, traces Maine
’s landscape paintings. Works by Winslow Homer, George Bellows have long
been part of the museum’s collection. Enjoy the works of NC, Andrew and
Jamie Wyeth, and then visit the Olson House in nearby Cushing, where Andrew
painted his renowned Christina’s World.
Art on the coast also means the more contemporary side of life…and the CMCA
Gallery in Rockport features mixed media and contemporary works, textile
art, sculpture and more. Exhibits change often and wonderful special events
and artisan showing are held throughout the season. Set in the midst of the
quiet village of Rockport , the Center for Maine Contemporary Art is just 5
minutes from the Inns At Blackberry Common.
Summer evenings many galleries along the coast join to offer Art After Hours
and AIR (Art In Rockland) showcases studios and galleries along the main
street.
